Kenneth “Kenny” Kuck, 72, of Searles died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Saturday, November 17 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. The Knights of Columbus and St. John’s Catholic United Financial will pray the rosary at 6 pm at the funeral home on Friday.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Kuck of Searles; daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Bob Rose of Savage, Laurie and Lee Weier of New Ulm; son, Jon Kuck and fiancée, Lisa Puhlman, of New Ulm; grandchildren, Shannon, Steph, Eric, Kayleigh; great grandchildren, Sydney, Chloe, Levi Kenneth; brothers and sister-in-law, LaVerne Kuck of New Ulm, and Richard and Sherry Kuck of rural New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Marlyn Kuck; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clarence and Marge Dauer; and brother-in-law, Robert Hoffman.

Kenneth Werner Kuck was born December 3, 1939 in New Ulm to John and Quidella (Reinhart) Kuck. He graduated from Cathedral High School with the class of 1957. On June 6, 1959, Kenny was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Hoffman at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. He worked for Kraft Foods in New Ulm for 40 years, retiring in 1999. After his retirement, Kenny worked at Randy Kraus Painting for 10 years. He was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he served on the church council and was a trustee, and a member of St. John’s Catholic United Financial and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Board of Directors for Minnesota Valley Funeral Home for 9 years, several of which he served as President of the Board. Kenny also served on the Searles Baseball Board. Kenny loved baseball and played for Searles Baseball for 25 years and was a baseball and softball umpire for 21 years. In 2011, he was inducted into the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Association Hall of Fame. Memorials are preferred to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Cathedral Athletics.

Ken played high school baseball for Holy Trinity High School now New Ulm Cathedral and the New Ulm Legion teams; he developed those skills as a young boy on the farm throwing balls off the buildings. He was an outstanding catcher for and later managed the Searls amateur baseball team; he also coached the Searles little league team.  When his playing and managing days were over, Ken took up umpiring.  He umpired amateur and high school baseball for more than twenty years. He was very active in the Searls Baseball Association as a member of the board of directors and president. He has been a member of the fund raising group to enhance the ballpark with the purchase and installation of lights for the ballpark.  Besides his board duties Ken ran many of the fund raisers and helped with field maintenance.  He is a current trustee of St. John’s Catholic Church and a past member of the New Ulm Catholic School board.
